Just 13 miles to the east of Guild Anderson’s bespoke kitchen design showroom in Tisbury, sitting in the heart of the Wiltshire Plains, is the historic medieval city of Salisbury.  Approximately 20 miles from Southampton and 30 miles from Bath, Salisbury’s charm is its compact size, with a pollution little more than 140,000 – no wonder locals affectionately refer to it as “Smallsbury”!

At its heart is the 13th century Salisbury cathedral with its 123 metre spire, an original copy of the Magna Carta, and a working 14th century clock. The Cathedral Close is a vast area of 80 acres, with a lawn dotted with trees and no less than 21 Grade I listed buildings such as Arundells, former home of Sir Edward Heath, and Mompesson House, as well as Salisbury Museum.

On Tuesdays and Saturdays the historic Charter Market fills the Market Place, selling fresh produce from the rural agricultural landscape that surrounds the city.  Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, National Parks and World Heritage Sites stand amongst the grasslands of Salisbury Plain peppered with Neolithic monuments, quaint country pubs and 5 rivers descending on Wiltshire’s capital.

Salisbury was recently named a ‘property hotspot’ by estate agency, Savills who said the area “remains incredibly popular.”  The countryside that surrounds the city is home to a wealth of farmland and rural villages, in each you can find stately homes, listed manor houses, and a selection of historic family homes.  Brick, flint and local stone are key building materials; with flint being readily available in the surrounding fields.

Our clients have included those relocating, to those inheriting period houses, and our commissions in and around Salisbury have allowed us to work in some magnificent homes, drawing inspiration from the  buildings themselves.  The remodelling of a Jacobean Manor House allowed the Guild Anderson design team to approached the project by assessing and understanding the space first.  In period homes this is an essential part of the design process as often the building is listed and there may be restrictions in place. 

Our aim with all our work is to design bespoke cabinetry that enhances the very fabric of the building for which it is intended.
