Guild Anderson’s bespoke kitchen design commissions in Poole, Dorset have varied enormously, as does the architecture of the area.  Victorian and Edwardian villas dominate the suburbs of the Old Town, while many of its buildings both commercial and residential were built at the height of the Art Deco period. 

The Grade II listed Municipal Buildings of 1932 (now the Civic Centre) is a fine example of Art Deco, both inside and out.  It has a deeply recessed arched balcony and wide eaves, and the way it sits on a triangular site, is described by Nikolaus Pevsner as ‘stripped classicism’.

The area has seen considerable development in the last 40 years with many of the original Victorian and Edwardian houses being demolished to make way for contemporary houses and apartments positioned perfectly to enjoy the very best views out to sea.

Poole is home to Europe’s largest natural harbour, some say it is the second biggest natural harbour in the world, the largest being Sydney, Australia.  The harbour is a drowned valley formed at the end of the last ice age and is the estuary of several rivers, the largest being the Frome, which flows from the west through Dorchester and Wareham.  Filled with many islands the harbour’s centre is Brownsea Island, home to Baden Powell’s Scout Movement.

On the land surrounding the east of the harbour are many built up affluent residential areas including Candford Cliffs, Lilliput, Sandbanks and Parkstone.  Whilst along the shoreline there are numerous sailing and water sports clubs, parks and sandy beaches, and it is home to the RNLI.

To the west of the harbour it is far more rural with Studland and its many award winning beaches home to The Pig Hotel.

Corfe Castle is a majestic ruin to the west, while Wareham is the gateway to the Purbeck Hills.  Its architecture largely Georgian with red brick and Purbeck limestone.

Guild Anderson’s cabinetry styles may be more influenced by the Shaker and Georgian periods, but we have seen a considerable increase in bespoke kitchen design commissions coming from Poole and the surrounding towns and villages.
