Sitting proudly at the top of a hill overlooking the beautiful Bourne valley in West Hampshire is the most fabulous family farmhouse. Having bought the original home in 2022, our clients undertook an extensive 18 month renovation of the building, adding two large wings on either side plus a yard for their horses.
Our client is an interior designer and her sensitive approach to design is apparent throughout the property.
She has created the perfect English country home with a large boot room, walk-in pantry and triple aspect family kitchen with tall Crittall style windows that flood the room with light and allow incredible views across the valley.
With a young family, and an extended family close by, she enjoys entertaining and this room needed to work hard to accommodate family life.
With a sofa area and dining table that can comfortably seat 10, she sought a designer that could create a kitchen that would work just as easily for her family as well as for when she had larger gatherings.
Top of the wish-list was a hidden fridge and after much researching about who could design such a unique piece of furniture our client found Guild Anderson.
Her main focus was that the fridge should be discreet and ideally resemble a glazed dresser, rather than a modern appliance that dominated the room.
Hiding a fridge in a bespoke kitchen is something that Guild Anderson are known for and have adapted many designs for different projects. In this space we have recessed the fridge back in to the adjacent pantry wall behind; the cabinet now has a shallow profile and whilst it stands proudly at the end of the island; it does not dominate the room.
Salvesen Graham Floral Trail fabric was chosen to sit behind the glazed door; while the cabinet itself is painted in Nicaragua by Edward Bulmer paint. Victoria Clark Interiors made the curtain and kindly made a special trip to the Guild Anderson workshop to ensure that the fabric fitted behind the glass perfectly during production.
Despite the appeal of a Cook’s Table our client was also keen to have an island large enough to be used for a multitude of tasks.
By getting to know our client and understanding her wishes and the way they live as a family we have created a hard working unique piece of furniture that sits proudly central to the kitchen.
At one end the work surface is sycamore; soft to the touch and subtle in its tones; it creates ample space for four bar stools; either to be used as a breakfast bar or a relaxed seating area when entertaining guests.
In the middle of the island is a large slab of marble; the perfect surface for making pastry, standing hot pans and preparing food.
By the island sink area the third surface is oak. Housing a bin, a bank of drawers, a cabinet, a seating area, a prep space and a sink, this incredibly industrious island is hand painted in Little Greene’s Olive Colour.
Marlborough Tiles feature behind the Everhot range cooker. The mantlepiece above was designed and made by Guild Anderson; it mirrors on the far wall a large open fireplace with a large mantle surrounded by family size sofas. Our client has used various shades of pink throughout the house; seeing the colour as more of a neutral, it creates the warm backdrop she wants for her home. The walls and cabinetry in the kitchen are painted in the softest shade of pink; Lilac Pink by Edward Bulmer.
Bespoke cabinet interiors have been incorporated in to the design. To the right of the Everhot is a double cupboard that houses baking trays sheets and dishes in neatly designed upright sections. To the left of the Everhot is a large Butler’s sink, a dishwasher, a cabinet for crockery and a drawer for cutlery; neatly lined in pink baize. This area is easily accessible from the large dining table and the island seating area creating an easy flow when laying tables or clearing meals.
When asked to describe what she likes most about the kitchen; “It’s an incredible space to cook in, and a sociable space to be in”. It really does epitomise the perfect Guild Anderson family kitchen; considered design, hand made bespoke cabinetry, and the most amazing views.
