SHAFTESBURY
Bespoke Kitchen Design Shaftesbury

Guild Anderson undertakes bespoke kitchen design in nearby Shaftesbury,  a charming small market town in Dorset.  The town is close to the border with Wiltshire and only 9 miles from Guild Anderson’s bespoke kitchen design showroom in Tisbury.  It sits on the site of a Benedictine nunnery and standing 700 feet above sea level it is one of the highest towns in England.

During the 1970s Shaftesbury’s Gold Hill was made famous by the “Hovis” advert, directed by none other than Ridley Scott.  It is a steep cobbled street with one of the most romantic views in all of England, looking out across Thomas Hardy’s Blackmore Vale towards Gillingham.  North Dorset was a huge inspiration to Thomas Hardy with Shaftesbury and Sherborne both featuring heavily in his novels.

A gateway to the South West of England with Stonehenge and Salisbury approximately 20 miles to the east, it is surrounded by the expansive rolling Dorset and Wiltshire countryside.  We have seen many clients relocating to this area because of its easy to reach to London via the A303 only 16 miles to the north.

Every Thursday Shaftesbury hosts a charter market, with regular farmers markets, book fairs, flee markets, plus monthly Sunday Markets – a true market town.  There are a wide selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants and a High Street filled with independent shops.

Cranborne Chase, the UK’s sixth largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty begins just east of Shaftesbury.  To the south is the undulating landscape of Fontmell and Melbury Downs, and expansive area with far reaching views.

A Georgian House Renovation in Dorset

Notable buildings close by include Old Old Wardour Castle and Hatch House, the family home of Sir Henry and Lady Rumbold, now run as a wedding venue and in the summer months acts a magnificent backdrop for  The Covent Garden Dance Company’s Ballet evenings.

We have worked in villages surrounding Shaftesbury such as Motcombe, The Donheads and Ashmore with a significant increase in commissions from clients moving to the area to enjoy a more rural, unhurried way of life.
