Guild Anderson has undertaken many bespoke kitchen design projects in Hampshire country houses, with current projects in St Mary Bourne, Preston Candover and Hurstbourne Tarrant. Guided by the principles of the estate joiner (the long term steward of the English country house), our kitchen design commissions can be seen throughout Hampshire and the South West of England.
Nick Anderson, Guild Anderson’s owner and creative director explains; “We are passionate about bespoke kitchen designs, in Hampshire or elsewhere. A true country house kitchen is for living in, not just for looking at. It’s where family breakfasts, muddy boots get kicked off by children, and evening suppers all happen in one day. We believe in designing bespoke kitchens that are there to be used: hardworking, beautiful functional spaces that serve real life. Durable finishes, generous preparation areas, and well-considered storage make a good kitchen a pleasure to use every day, not only on special occasions”.
Although Hampshire is officially classed as a county in the South East, we feel it’s very much a part of the South West of England.
Full of inspiration, Hampshire is home to an incredible array of architecture, with rural areas that include two national parks: The New Forest and part of the South Downs, which together cover 45% of the county. The county town of Winchester boasts some of the Hampshire’s finest architecture, whilst Southampton and Portsmouth are historical naval towns, more modern and commercial in style.
Notable towns that also sit close to the Solent include Lymington, Beaulieu and Brockenhurst, Whilst further north Winchester, Alresford, Alton offer more rural and historical architecture.
Stately homes include The Vyne near Basingstoke with its Tudor origins, Bramshill House heralded as one of England’s greatest examples of a Jacobean prodigy house and Farnborough Hill which clearly takes influences from 16th-century Elizabethan and Neo-gothic architecture styles. Somerley House is a grade II Georgian gem, and The Grange is an outstanding example of the Greek Revival style.
Our work in Hampshire is often varied, with more traditional kitchen projects being designed for country houses in the Test Valley, around Basingstoke and Winchester, while projects near Beaulieu and the south coast often tend to be more adventurous.
We tend to attract a number of clients from Hampshire, often being parents with children at Farleigh School, Cheam or Twyford, all of which are strong pulls to the county.
With so many architectural styles to influence and draw inspiration from, Guild Anderson has been fortunate to design bespoke kitchens and cabinetry throughout Hampshire. It is a county blessed with some magnificent as well as more modest family homes, and we love working in both.
One of our favourite projects involved the design of a series of back of house spaces including the principle kitchen, the pantry and the bootroom.
We are very proud of the service that we offer to our clients in the county.
