The original brief was to create a kitchen which was completely individual and uplifting to be in, and Jess had some fantastic ideas which we were able to weave in with our own design direction to produce a kitchen which met the brief while remaining functional.

The kitchen island was partly tiled on one face

The view through the new kitchen extension
This contemporary extension was added to a listed Georgian house. It seemed sensible to mirror this traditional-meets-modern approach with the design of the kitchen. We created a cabinetry design with a square edged traditional bolection mould (a mould which rises above the face of the frame). The Buster and Punch brass handles, the tiled island and the striking Little Greene Paint Company Marine Blue colour give the space a sliver of the contemporary without being too sharp and oppressive.

Plenty of space allows two people to work back-to-back
The kitchen design is much more modern than we usually create. The vast length of the floor to ceiling Crittall doors looking out over the garden, the acres of white porcelain floor, as well as the lightness and playfulness of the entire room ensures that your spirits are lifted as soon as you sit yourself down at the vivid kitchen island. It really brightens up a dull day.

The contemporary kitchen details sit well with both modern and traditional architecture
