Simple lines, rectilinear shaped rooms and tall ceilings with elegant features are all attributes of Georgian classical architecture. The Georgian period has had such a positive influence on Guild Anderson’s designs over the years, and our team have designed a subtle, understated yet sophisticated kitchen to reflect this.

As our client’s family has grown, so too have their needs changed. To reflect these changes, this Georgian country house in Dorset had to be enlarged.
The Dorset based architect Tim Reeve was commissioned to extend the kitchen space, proposing a new orangery style extension to square off the original room. His design flooded natural light into the domestic space of the building and add a great deal of atmosphere to this classically proportioned home.
This extension has afforded our design team to create a handmade kitchen design that sits beautifully within the space, taking inspiration from the traditional architecture of the original home.

The kitchen island in strong linear grained walnut

The handmade kitchen design incorporated tall painted cabinetry with a strong linear grained European walnut island as its central feature.
The colour palette is restrained and subtle, allowing the strong grain of the central island to create atmosphere and natural texture. A traditional Georgian colour palette was also chosen for the soft furnishings in the kitchen with green as the accent colour throughout the room; colour shades found in nature having been proven to have a positive calming effect on our well-being.

A separate tall glazed cabinet for cocktail and wine glasses was located away from the main heart of the kitchen, allowing caterers and drinks-makers to operate independently without getting in each other’s way.
A pull out table top provides additional work space when needed.
The kitchen appliances include a new AGA, Miele Master Cool fridge, Miele oven and dishwasher, all hidden from view. Every storage solution has been considered.
The combination of the classically proportioned new architecture with the neo Georgian handmade kitchen design has worked well, respecting the period of the original house while improving life for the client’s growing family.
